The return to competitive action for county sides came this weekend as the inevitable A versus B fixture opened the season, Shropshire No 11 Matt Croft was in outstand form in his first match against the dificult combination play of Whitchurch based Neville Lacey, Croft winning 11-4,11-3,11-4,Rob Mansfield proved too steady for Terry Ridgway as the A side hit back and a super fit John Holding pushed the firsts ahead in a five game battle with Mike Dudley winning 11-5,10-12,11-9,6-11,11-7.Croft levelled the scoreline with a fine win against Mansfield and the tide turned towards the B side with the doubles victory,yet again the A team came back as Neville Lacey got the better of Dudley 11-4,10-12,11-3,7-11,11-4,Terry Ridgway`s battle with Holding proved the turning point as the scores swung 19-17,13-15,5-11,11-3, with Holding leading 9-5 in the final game one last effort by the ever determined Ridgway saw the score turned to 11-9,Dudley saw off the defensive skills of Rob Mansfield 11-7,11-9,11-4 and Croft completed a fine afternoon with a maximum beating Holding in a tight five game match, The first team have a difficult away trip to Nottingham next month while the seconds entertain top of the league Derby.
